Patrick G Cox

What happens when you catapult a Midshipman from the Napoleonic Wars into the future? What would he and his companions have to overcome in order to adjust to a new age, new technology and a new life? How will they deal with unscrupulous men and women who regard them as 'labrats' and 'specimens' to be used, abused and discarded?

* * *

A freak accident on board the HMS Spartan during a sea battle with the French navy in 1804 catapults Midshipman Harry Heron and his shipmates Ferghal O’Connor and Danny Gunn four hundred years into the future, landing them on the NECS Vanguard, flagship of the World Treaty Organisation Fleet. While Captain Blackwood and Major Heron sort out the mystery and determine whether the young men are alive or dead, Harry and his friends are faced with the challenge of learning new roles aboard a spaceship. Just as they have found their footing, they are called upon to assist the Fleet in a rescue mission on the planet Pangaea, giving them the opportunity to prove that their unique skills from the past are still very relevant in the far distant future.

High praise for this Book! I'm not going to try to pigeon hole it as SYFI or Fantasy it's a bit of everything I enjoy. I'm a big fan of Pope and Alexander and this book had some of that. I enjoy a good space opera and there was that too. Toss in some science fantasy and this book came out a winner.
Another big point for me is its a stand alone novel. The author need not do another book to make it a series and his only thought or vision.
On the other hand it can also pick up again after our young hero's finish there education and blast off to other adventures.
It's not deep writing but it's entertaining and will hold your attention on a rainy day like it did Mine!
I really enjoyed the read!
